Back From the Bronx

Very few people are forced to face a culture shock while walking down memory lane, but the new Campbell County High School physics teacher Kari Bernston isn’t just anybody. She came back to CCHS, her alma mater, from Bronx, New York.

Her department mentor is also her old physics teacher, Physics Kahuna Glenn Knapp. The two work closely together now as equals in the school system, but Knapp still remembers her as a student. “She was a good student, bright, wanted to learn, and had an inquiring mind,” said Knapp. That inquiring mind has carried Bernston, or Ms. B, as her students like to call her, to much bigger pastures.

The Bronx may be viewed as the Hollywood-fueled version of crime and danger, but Bernston is quick to dispel such views. “Never ever did I feel unsafe in the Bronx,” said Bernston. She wouldn’t recommend walking around alone at night by all means, but that is a rule that applies in all communities.

into her old halls to teach, Bernston doesn’t consider it a step down. “I consider it a special treat [to be back],” said Bernston.

The administration is also pleased with her return. “I think she’ll be outstanding,” said head principal Kirby Eisenhauser.

Students are pleased with Ms. B. too. “She’s a great teacher,” said senior Paula Andrie. Several students, like junior Keaton Smith, like her hands on style of teaching and music selection, which is the entire Glee soundtrack sprinkled with Regina Spektor.

No matter where she comes from, the fact stands, CCHS is better off with this fresh off the block physics teacher.
