The beginning of the magical night of prom starts with that one guy who has the courage to bear his heart out, and ask the question that’s on every girl’s mind: “Will you go to prom with me?” This year, Campbell County High School boys have mustered up the nerve for months on the perfect way to ask.

“I wrote the word prom? on the football field in the snow,” senior Murphy Dutcher said. “I wanted to do something creative and unique.”

“I was pretty surprised he put a lot of effort into it,” said Dutcher’s date, senior Jaime Knickerbocker. “He even came to my house and kidnapped me. How could I say no?”

Murphy isn’t the only one who got artistic with the word prom.

“I took purple sticky notes and spelled out prom? on Courtney Hart’s front windshield,” junior Ethan Strand said. “I then filled the rest of the space in with yellow sticky notes.”

“I was shocked because I wasn’t expecting a big gesture,” senior Courtney Hart said. “Of course, I said yes.”

Others planned a huge night for the big question.

“Nick Dillinger sent me on a scavenger hunt to four of our most memorable date spots. When we got there, I found balloons with numbers attached to them,” senior Lauren Vigil said. “Then he took me back to my house and he wrote the alphabet out with numbers below them and each number attached to the balloon was a different letter that spelt out prom?”

“I’m very happy with the way the night turned out,” senior Nick Dillinger said. “I got the scavenger hunt idea from my friend and added the rest.”

“My guy gave me a shirt for a present,” sophomore Hannah Huss said. “At first, I wasn’t too thrilled about it. When I washed the shirt and took it out, the words, ‘Will you go to prom with me, Hannah?’ were written on it.”

“I was thinking about asking Hannah for the longest time but I knew I couldn’t do it just any way,” Sheridan student Jesse Mullin said. “I had to be sneaky, so she wouldn’t figure it out. When she said yes, I was glad and couldn’t stop smiling.”

Prom is just around the corner and girls and guys come up with the final pieces to the perfect night. If a girl is still waiting for that brave guy to come along, remember, there’s still a few weeks left for a guy to plan that memorable question of: “Will you go to prom with me?”

For many, prom is the most romantic night of all. However, some students at Campbell County High School choose to attend with a good friend to have a night full of fun. Despite the hair and makeup, the dress and tux, your date is most important thing.

“I think it would be good to go as both as friends or a real couple. As long as the friend knew you were only friends,” junior Taylor Chaulk said. “If you guys were in a relationship, it may not be awkward.”

Going in a group of friends could break the ice, or the anxiety, of this eventful night.

“It’s better as friends because there is no commitment with the person,” sophomore Katie Wilson said. “You wouldn’t have to feel bad about anything.”

“It’s more fun because you’re not tied down to the same person the whole time,” junior Alex Lara said.

“Friends as a date at prom is a good choice because then you can spend time with your other friends too,” sophomore Kenzie Schmidt agreed.

However, showing up to prom with your boyfriend or girlfriend could be the way to go.

“I think it would be better to go as a couple because then it would just be more comfortable and fun,” senior Sean Kelley said.

“I think I would want to go to prom as a couple because you know for sure that you will have a fun night,” sophomore Torrey Nelson said.

“Going as a real couple would make it more meaningful,” senior Devon Talcott said. “It would be fun to go in a group of girls but you don’t get to have the whole date factor.”

You don’t always have to find your Prince Charming or Cinderella to go to prom. Some like to go with a group of friends, and some like to keep it more personal. Either way, prom will be an extravagant night.

It is true that the big day is May 5th, however, the days of preparation leading up to the event start long before Prom actually approaches. While much of the school’s population is scattering to find a date, spending hours in the dress shops, and deciding where they should get their hair done and eat dinner on the special night, prom goers are thinking far ahead.

“My friend and I went shopping for homecoming dresses in October, but I actually ended up finding my prom dress,” junior Emily Pfeifle, who is going with junior Jade Kampfe, said. “There was a really good sale, the style was unique, and I figured I wouldn’t find one I liked more, so I got it!”

“I asked my date during Christmas Break because I really wanted to go with her,” said junior Paden Bauder who will be attending with junior Tanesha Fink. “Now I’m just waiting on her to pick her dress so I can get my tux.”

Even though there are so many things to get done before the big day gets here, the day of prom is jam-packed full of a variety of to-do’s.

“There is a lot to do before prom,” said senior Megan Dilree who is going with senior Christian Garcia. “I have to get my hair done at three, do my make-up around four, get my dress on, do pictures and dinner, all before Grand March starts at seven.”

“Before pictures and dinner with our big group of friends, I am going to get my hair cut,” said junior Logan Wasson who is taking his girlfriend, senior Emily Senef. “I have got to look good and impress!”

“I’ll be driving a Lincoln Mark LT to prom,” said senior Tanner Evans, who asked junior Kailey Anderson. “I’ll get that washed and looking good before I pick up my date.”

We all know the night doesn’t end at midnight. Even after the exhaustion of a long day, waiting in line for the Grand March, and an extravagant dance, the students at Campbell County High School still want to carry on to make their night even more unforgettable.

“I don’t plan to leave prom until the end,” said senior Kaycee Schriber, who is senior Westin Hinkle’s date. “But, after we leave, I think it would be really fun to go have breakfast with a bunch of people at someone’s house.”

“After prom, I’ll probably hang out with the people I went to dinner with,” said senior Geoff Rappleya who is bringing junior Sarah Sharp as his date. “We will probably just go to someone’s house and find something fun to do with the rest of our night.”

After the one amazing night, the hectic months and crazy day come to an end, leaving everyone with extraordinary memories to reminisce on for the rest of their lives.

It starts out with a simple plan: get your flowers, gain the strength, and ask her. You may run the plan through your head a hundred times, but the question always arises, “What if she says no?”

This dilemma causes the hair-pulling, nail-biting, anticipation that haunts every guy when finding a date to prom. As the day keeps getting closer, the frustration rises. “Will she go with me? Should I even ask her?”

For some, finding a date may come easier than most. “I’ve had my date for awhile now,” stated junior Aspen Richardson. “We know we’re going together, but he still hasn’t officially asked me yet.”

To others, the rush to find a date does not affect them. A junior male, who wanted to stay anonymous, stated, “I’m planning to ask her when it gets closer. I don’t have anyone in mind yet, but this way I won’t get dumped a week before.”

“Last year, just a few weeks away from prom, my girlfriend dumped me,” stated junior Derek Lutonsky. “I’m pretty sure she just wanted to go with someone else.”
This dilemma also happens to women, “When prom ideas started to circulate I was dating someone, so I automatically assumed that we would be going together, junior Tiffany Scott said. “But now we are not dating anymore so I don’t have a date to prom.”

Now, as the date gets closer, thoughts of going as a couple may start to go out the window, and plans of going just as friends start to circulate.

“I’m going to prom with a sophomore because he really wanted the chance to go,” senior Annie Breinholt said. “But we’re just going as friends in a big group.”

When the guy or girl gains the courage to ask, they may start to scheme how they will ask their special date. It may just include flowers, or could be a laser light show at the planetarium, but everyone, sometimes using friend’s ideas, comes up with their special plan to ask that special person.
