Are you trying to annoy me?

Kenzie Edmondson, Introduction to Journalism

If you cringe at the sound of nails on a chalk board, the one kid at lunch who chews with their mouth open, or the person sitting next to you who won’t stop tapping their pencil, then you have made your list of pet peeves like many students at CCHS.

“I cannot stand when my sister leaves the cap off the toothpaste,” sophomore Mckenzie Schmidt said. “It is disgusting.”

“I hate when people squeeze the toothpaste from the middle instead of the top or the bottom,” junior Lukas Poloncic said.

“It irritates me when people don’t flush the toilet,” sophomore Zachary Donahoo said. “It really grosses me out.”

Pet peeves can be found in the bathroom or the lunch table.

“My biggest pet peeve is when people smack their food,” junior Cole Petty said. “Sometimes I have to plug my ears.”

“People always chew with their mouth open or talk with food in their mouths,” sophomore Rachel Williams said. “I think they do it on purpose just to make me mad.”

Phone etiquette is also an area where pet peeves are the most annoying.

“I hate when someone calls me and then I try to call them back and they don’t answer,” said junior Andrew Kaufman. “Playing phone tag is annoying.”

“A pet peeve on my list is when people text and drive,” Petty added.

“When I text someone and they don’t reply, it really annoys me,” junior Brooklyn Schwab said. “Especially when it is important.

Liar liar pants on fire?

“I hate when people say something bad about a person and then act like they are best friends when they see each other,” senior Dylan Brannan said.

“I get really annoyed when people lie to me,” Williams added. “It is pointless.”

“The one thing that annoys me the most is when students lie to me,” Spanish teacher Chris Baity said. “It is extremely disrespectful.”

For some students at CCHS, their pet peeves gross them out.

“It is so gross and rude when people burp out loud,” said junior Alex Guicho. “Especially girls because they are supposed to be pretty and polite.”

“It makes me mad when I walk into the bathroom and someone has urinated all over the toilet,” added Poloncic. “Some guys need to work on their aim.”

If students at CCHS took a look in the mirror, they might realize they are on the list of someone’s pet peeves. So unless you are looking to be smacked in the lunch line, or beat up with the toothpaste, you might want to be aware of your own bad and annoying habits.

“That’s sick.”

Kerri Temple, Introduction to Journalism

“What’s up? That’s legit!” One word, or a few words; that is all it takes. It doesn’t matter who said it first or where it came from, but by the next day the whole school is saying a new phrase or catch word. Within a week, a new saying is created; that’s high school.

Sophomore James Christensen said,  “Cool story, bro,” is the new ‘Your Mom’ and it all started on 4Chan, an online website.” For weeks, this was the response given to any and everything a CCHS student had to say.

“No me gusta,” sophomore Jandey Shackelford said is her favorite saying of this year.

Some sayings range from mean to ridiculous depending on whom you ask. “You have no friends,” junior Dakota Espey said in a jokingly manner.

Junior Chris Frye said, “I’m a boss.” These words are heard repeatedly in the hallways and in class for the smallest accomplishments.

Teachers and staff have a different take on life and share their insight in a professional way.

“Get to ninety,” sophomore Sports Training Teacher Erik Shepherd has said on a daily basis as well as, “Line up.” Those two words are music to the student’s ears.

“Ya know?” the most commonly used saying of North Campus Supervisor Stefanie Heer when she knows her boyfriend isn’t listening to her.

Seniors have their way of expressing their feelings about life in high school, too.

Senior Zach Sarcinella said, “Niiiiceee.” Is the response you can hear him speak down the halls of CCHS when hearing a story from his friends.

“Bam said the lady,” is senior Shawn Johnson’s favorite way of expressing himself regardless of the question.

So no matter how you say it, spell it, or mean what you say, know that people are listening and will take it anyway they want to. Oh and “Fetch” will so totally never be cool. “Later gurl.”

Facebook or Twitter?

Ashley Morris, Introduction to Journalism

Posts, comments, tweets, hash tags, likes. Twitter or Facebook? These social networks keep a lot of CCHS students quite entertained and busy.

“I think Facebook is better,” said sophomore Dustin Erisman. “You can comment directly and do a little more than you can on Twitter.”

“I enjoy Facebook more because I have more people on there,” junior Danielle Kienzle stated. “I can talk to my family and other adults more than on Twitter.”

“I love how I can keep in touch with family and friends that live far away on Facebook,” said junior Alex Guicho. “I like them both, but Facebook is my choice.”

“There’s more people on Facebook, so I like it better,” stated junior Ryan Overfield. “People always complain and put stupid stuff on Twitter.”

“I’m not used to Twitter yet,” said sophomore Hannah Coleman. “I think Facebook keeps me in more contact with my family.”

For other students, Twitter is the best choice.

“Twitter is the way to go, Facebook is annoying,” said sophomore Bryce Lyman. “Twitter has more interesting things said on it.”

“Twitter is always so random and funny,” said junior Dillan Shepherd. “I like it more than Facebook.”

“I think Twitter is better,” senior Bri Swenson said. “Facebook has too much drama.”

“A lot of people complain on Facebook, so I like Twitter,” junior Matt Cunningham said.

“I like Twitter rather than Facebook,” said senior Connor Elbert. “There’s less drama.”

Whether Facebook or Twitter is your choice, we all have our favorite things about the two networks.

“I like that Facebook has kept me in touch with friends from when I was in school,” Cafeteria employee Cheryl Morris said.

“I like how you can instant message people on Facebook,” Lyman added.

“My favorite thing about Twitter is all of the funny quotes that people tweet,” said sophomore Mckenzie Schmidt.

Twitter and Facebook can consume a lot of time out of a CCHS students life, but are a must have to keep on track of the social train.

Football

Hoekstra:Football,picture

Shalayna Hoekstra, Junior staff writer

The lifting, two-a-day practicing, conditioning, dedication, and most of all, true love for football, are all the reasons why on a Friday night home game, the Campbell County High School stands are packed, and the team earns a victory.

“During summer, we had to do weight lifting, which wasn’t so bad until we had to do the conditioning with it,” senior Reese Tolzien said. “We had to do lots of running and drills and the tire-flips were awful.” Tolzien also said how much he is enjoying football so far his senior year.

“I believe we will have a really good team this year because we have a great senior class that leads and a bunch of younger guys stepping up,” Head Coach Vic Wilkerson said.

One of those leaders is senior Travis Tweeten. “I love football because everyone on the team is friends so we always have fun. The coaches are also what make it so great.” If Tweeten had his way, he would make the season longer.

Another senior, Caleb Olson, who has been starting line since sophomore year, said, “No doubt the best part of football is playing games. When we play and win, we understand why we work so hard in practice.”

While several players are setting their focus on leading the team to a championship victory this season, some players are trying to look further into the future.

Junior Dani Fisher hopes that over the season, he can continue doing his job as receiver and safety to the best of his ability so he can earn a football scholarship to the Air Force Academy after high school. “Until then, the best part about football is the feeling you get after winning a tight game,” Fisher said.

Fisher isn’t the only person with college plans on his mind.

“I think dressing varsity as a sophomore is pretty cool,” sophomore Tichun Aipperspach said. It’s only his first step to getting a scholarship to Michigan University as halfback and/or linebacker.

All the Camel players can agree on one thing: they’ve become a really strong team mentally and physically and they plan on taking State in November.

Assistant Coach Erik Shepherd sums it up, “It’s an awesome group of boys because they would all fight for each other, put the team’s goals ahead of their own, and even though they all like to have fun, they’ll buckle down and work.”

Tennis

Keeping an eight-year winning streak takes determination and quite a bit of practice. However, Practicing through the spring and summer is merely a part of preparing for the short Fall season.

The State Tennis Championship is the one goal the team is always thinking of. Winning a back-to-back championship is quite an accomplishment when every other team’s goal is to beat Gillette.

“It’s a lot of pressure with the eight-year dual streak and a state championship on your back,” senior Hunter Greer said. “ But I’m happy that I got third at state.”

History was also made from Brandon Swan by winning Campbell County’s first one singles State Title.

“State is the best part of the year, because it is everything you work for and it’s intense,” sophomore Gabe Beldon said.

Having team meals before every dual, and the long bus trips together make the team close, making the fall the best time of the year.

“Off the court, team dinners before our duals are the best,” junior Thomas Bush said. “There’s not a dinner that goes by where we are not out of our seats laughing.”

The team is more then determined to keep a winning season, and will do everything to be successful.
